Mission / Programs

The Institute for New Jersey Studies is a nonpartisan institution
devoted to the study of New Jersey history, government and politics,
and the publication of high-quality academic research in these fields
through publication in books, in journals and on the web.

Through its New Jersey Heritage Press publishing arm, the Institute
will be publishing four books this year:

Mark J. Magyar serves as President of the Institute. He is a former
Statehouse reporter for the Asbury Park Press, The Record of
Hackensack
and the former Daily Register, and served in the
Governor's Office as a senior policy adviser specializing in tax and
budget issues, labor relations and reinventing government. He has
served as Editor of New Jersey Reporter magazine since 1998 and
created New Jersey Heritage magazine in 2001. An adjunct
professor in the Rutgers University School of Management and Labor
Relations, he teaches courses in "Worker Movements in New Jersey" and
"Labor and Social Change." He serves on the board of the Roebling
Maingate Museum.
